RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
The respiratory system is how our body breathes. Every inhalation brings in the oxygen our cells need to work. And every time we exhale, we’re getting rid of carbon dioxide, a waste product. It’s a system that works quietly in the background, but it’s absolutely essential — without it, nothing else in the body can function for long.
NOSE & MOUTH
These are the entry points for air. The nose filters, warms, and moistens the air before it reaches the lungs. The mouth provides an alternative pathway, especially during heavy breathing.
Trachea
(Windpipe)
The trachea is the main airway that carries air from the throat down into the chest. It’s lined with tiny hairs, and mucus to traps dust and other unwanted particles.
Bronchi
The trachea splits into two bronchi, each leading to one lung. These tubes direct air into the lungs, making sure both sides of the respiratory system are supplied.
LUNGS
The lungs are the main organs of the respiratory system. They’re soft and sponge-like, built to expand and contract with each breath. Inside them, oxygen is passed into the blood, and carbon dioxide is removed from it.
BRONCHIOLES
These are the smaller branches of the bronchi inside the lungs. They carry air deeper into the lungs, leading straight to the alveoli. They play a key role in air distribution.
Alveoli are tiny air sacs at the very end of the bronchioles. This is where gas exchange happens — oxygen passes into the blood, and carbon dioxide exits. Their thin walls and close contact with blood vessels make this process fast and efficient.
Diaphragm
The diaphragm is a large, dome-shaped muscle located beneath the lungs. It moves down when you inhale, creating space for the lungs to fill with air, and moves up when you exhale, helping push the air out. It’s the main muscle involved in breathing.
